Fitting Guidelines
Carpets
There are many different types of carpets to choose form, in this short introduction we will try and give you a basic understanding of what sets them apart. For example, there are different pile types, such as a “twist” pile or a “loop” pile. Twists will tend to be on the fluffier side and loops will be a denser woven pile. As with the carpet backing, “hessian” backing or “felt” backing. Hessian backing will always require gripper strips to be fitted around the edge of the room and to have underlay fitted below, whereas felt backed carpets can be fitted directly to the floor using an adhesive (this makes felt backed carpets an excellent option on a tight budget).
Carpets of the same colour but from separate rolls can vary in shade, if you require the carpet to be exactly the same shade (if two pieces need to be joined for a single room for instance) this needs to be specified before purchase. Carpets are available in 4.0 m or 5.0 m metre width, please be aware of this when measuring a room.
Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl is an improved hard floor covering coming in a wide range of designs and thickness's. They can be fitted in a number of different ways but typically can be "loose laid" which means they are fitted without adhesive or in larger areas they will be stuck down. Vinyls will be fitted straight to the floor which means in some cases some preparation of the sub-floor will be required. Vinyls are available in 2.0 m, 3.0 m and 4.0 meter widths.
Wood Effect (LVT) Flooring
Luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) are products that looks like real wood and stone flooring, but provides many more practical benefits. Being very hard wearing and easy to clean they are ideal for either domestic or contract use. LVT is sold in packs of tiles to cover square meters. It requires sub-floor preparation in either the form a latex smoothing compound for concrete floors or of plywood on wooden floors.
